A Stephen Ministry Congregation
STEPHEN MINISTRY
Is God calling YOU to serve?
Stephen
Ministry is a lay caring ministry at Lord of Life, in which one trained person
reaches out to another in a time of need. It has been a vital, growing part
of the overall Care Ministry in our congregation since 1995.
There are currently six active Stephen Leaders and 19 Stephen Ministers at
Lord of Life who minister to people in grief or transition, experiencing loneliness
or depression, facing death, or struggling with faith issues.
This ministry seeks people who feel called to this kind of one-on-one caring
ministry and offers a training class each year. Members are also encouraged
to contact Stephen Ministry when they might benefit from a relationship with
a caring friend to help them through a difficult time.
“And this is his command: to believe in the name of his
Son, Jesus Christ, and
to love one another as he commanded us.” 1 John 3:23

A glimpse into the
Leader’s Training Course
I recently attended the Stephen Ministry Leader Training
Course in Ontario, CA. There were 381 participants from four countries,
31 states and representing 35 church denominations. I am so appreciative
of having the opportunity to attend this training course.
The course included six concentrated days and evenings
of very professional presentations and smallgroup seminar sessions. Each
morning we began with singing and devotions. It was delightful to walk
into a room of Christians singing, as people gathered to begin the day.
Needless to say, it was quite an experience to be with so many caring
and supportive people, people who were willing to come together to learn
the Stephen Series.
The Stephen Series is a complete system for training and
organizing lay people to provide one-to-one Christian care to hurting
people in our congregation and community. Lord of Life is fortunate to
have a very active Stephen Ministry providing distinctively Christian
lay ministry to people in need.
I have been blessed to be a part of Stephen Ministry as
a care-giver, and now to have the opportunity to be a Stephen Leader.
I ask for your prayers in my new role, as well as for all Stephen Ministers
and the people they serve. “Carry each other’s burdens,
and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians
6:2)
